Former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson has claimed Celtic are currently being priced out of a move for Fraser Forster.

Celtic had Fraser on-loan last term and he showed his worth on many occasions. Before that, he was surplus to requirements at Southampton, playing for the reserves with no first-team prospects.

After his showing this season, it appears Southampton are going to try and hold out to get as much money as possible for the player who currently sits on a £70kpw deal (Spotrac)

Robinson told Football Insider: “Southampton have unfairly priced him out of a deal at the moment.

“We are talking about a player who has not been anywhere near the first-team squad in 12-18 months. He was surplus to requirements.

“He has gone to Celtic and rejuvenated his career and now looks like a top class goalkeeper again.”

We all know Peter Lawwell won’t be drawn into paying over the odds for a player in his thirties. Celtic might have to be patient and wait until it’s clear there’s no real alternatives other than to let Fraser go back to Celtic.

It’s a risky game because another club could come in for Fraser during that time and offer him first-team football elsewhere.

Celtic haven’t made an announcement on Craig Gordon as of yet, even though the player is currently out of contract. Are they waiting on a decision from Southampton?

  1. Not really though, as Frazer was ‘surplus to requirements’ at Newcastle and Celtic got him on loan with provision to purchase, as he was still surplus Celtic purchased the large chap. Then sold him to Southamton. Now Southamton want either more or the same coin back for him. Celtic will buy or move on. Up to the board now. I. mean not like Celtic are completely skint.

  2. Need to bite the bullet and get Fraser. Will be a fantastic asset for coming years and may get us runs in Europe, which in long term will get the money back. Saw somewhere “he’s coming to end of career ” he’s only 32!! For a keeper that’s young, still many years ahead. If that’s the thinking about his age then Ronnie Simpson would never have come to Celtic.
