FRASER FORSTER has reportedly turned down a new deal with Southampton.

SunSport is reporting the former Celtic star has knocked back a deal on reduced terms and with the Englishman in the final year of his deal at St Mary’s, he could be ready to move on.

The paper claims it ‘opens the door’ for a move to Celtic, but right now, that’s all just speculation on their part.

Vasilis Barkas is already under pressure after conceding in the first le of our Champions League qualifier on Tuesday but the talk of a Forster return should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Ange Postecoglou is trying to implement a new style and philosophy at the club and it relies upon having a mobile goalkeeper who can not just shot stop but help in the build-up play and almost become a sweeper at times. Fraser is a great shot-stopper but he doesn’t have all the attributes Ange is looking for.

Many will just want a shot-stopper in, someone who will win the team games and points. But it’s essential Ange gets the best players for his system to work.

Fraser is on big money at Southampton, he’ll be in no rush to leave this summer.

  1. Much as I admire Fraser, the best goalkeeper in my time as a Celtic fan, we really have to forget this constant link with him.

His wages are way outside any possible contract we could offer.

Can’t blame him for getting an incredible contract down south but just shows how our wage structure & finances can’t compete for good players in England-no shame in that but lets face up to it and move on.

There have to be alternative options out there

  2. No, hate to disagree but Fraz has the world in his hands. If he shows the kind of form show at Celtic, most teams would take a chance. But Celtic buying him would start a mass exit for the door of the paymaster at Paradise. I good thing I reckon. Now Fagin has gone. Would he take a massive drop in wages, no your correct there Moon. But for every week playing maybe. Don’t think Celtic will buy a new keeper. Back to loans yet again.
