LEIGH GRIFFITHS is quite possibly the unluckiest Celtic striker in the history of the club.

I can’t think of any time in living memory where a striker produced so much when he played but got dropped so readily.

You have to go back to last month on the 29th of November for Leigh’s last start which must frustrate the striker.

It must be especially frustrating because there’s nobody really to blame for him dropping out the team.

When you have a striker like Moussa Dembele who can produce some outstanding football and the manager has in mind that Frenchman is in the shop window then he’s going to start him.

Leigh was then dropped for Edouard who came on and scored a hat-trick. At the time many thought Rodgers kept Leigh on the bench to ensure the striker was fit for the Anderlecht tie but when that came around he didn’t get a look in. Moussa Dembele got back to full fitness quickly and Edouard was brought on as a late sub to rescue the tie.

That’s what I mean when I say it must be highly frustrating, while even I want Leigh to play when he can, I can understand the reasoning behind why he isn’t and that’s the most annoying aspect.

What I do know, is that Leigh should be the first man down on that team sheet for the game against Hamilton midweek. He is fresh and raring to go after a few weeks if being idle and will be out to show why he is still Celtic’s best finisher.

I think Brendan will start him against Accies, hopefully.

  1. He also had picked up an injury around this time which subsequently let Dembele get his chance and Griffiths had to sit on the sidelines but I agree , now is the time to make him first choice striker again
