According to reports, Celtic Defender Stephen Welsh is the subject to interest from French side Toulouse.

However, the Scottish Champions don’t want to sell their defender. Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph claims the French side is keen on the Hoops academy player and this is the second but of interest from a side in Europe.

It’s not clear where Stephen is in the pecking order at the moment after Moritz Jenz coming in on loan. We know Ange Postecoglou prefers the centre-back to former Toulouse man Christopher Jullien.

But will Stephen’s chances in the side diminish if Jenz hits the ground running and Carl Starfelt returns from injury.

You could envision a scenario where the Celtic hierarchy would entertain a certain level of bid for Stephen given he isn’t an automatic first team pick.

The Scottish youngster is likely to start the Aberdeen game next Sunday on flag day. Stephen will have the desire this season to show he can be more than a squad player.

  1. I don’t understand the seeming reluctance to give Walsh a well-deserved run as first team choice – he has shown when given a run in the past that he is a first class defender. He is aggressive & good header of the ball – unlike most others in the team. Yes, he has looked a bit rusty when coming on now & again after sitting on the bench for so long but that’s to be expected. Seems to me that the attitude is if money has been spent on a player, then he must be played regardless!

  2. Nae idea who Walsh is but Welsh nowhere near 1st team material if we have any ambitions to make our mark in Europe again. The fact that Jullien isn’t getting a game totally undermines your last sentence
