JEREMIE FRIMPONG has been the surprise package of the season so far. Coming from nowhere from a Celtic perspective to pushing for a first team place a month and a half into his Celtic career.

Frimpong is only 19 and it’s testament to his work ethic and talent that Neil Lennon has pushed this bhoy into the first team already. It was late afternoon on deadline day when news broke there was a lad on his way up from Manchester City with most people unsure of who he was.

Coming into the club, not much was expected of Jeremie in the short term but we sit here in late October with the youngster already playing in two games.

Neil Lennon has been full of praise for the defender since coming in. He skipped the developmental team and has been training with the first team since coming through the door.

Speaking to CelticTV today after playing his part in the Ross County game – Frimpong revealed he’s been putting in extra hours with the gaffer.

“Working with the manager has been great.

“I’ve stayed behind with him to work on my crosses.

“It’s improved a lot since I’ve joined and helped me with the assist at the weekend.”

Frimpong isn’t eligible for the Europa league group stages so he will certainly sit out Thursday’s tie against Lazio but he could be pushing for a place against Aberdeen.

It’s likely Neil Lennon will want to protect him a little and putting him in at Pittodrie could be a risk considering he’s only played two professional gams in his career so far.
