Jeremie Frimpong revealed two of his former Celtic teammates texted him straight away when the draw was made for the Europa League.

The former Celtic defender, now playing for Leverkusen, wasn’t aware of who his current side got in the draw but texts from Boli Bolingoli and Mikey Johnston alerted him to go check what was going on.

Speaking to RecordSport, Jeremie said:

“I was at home and the players texted me – Mikey, Boli Bolingoli.

“They text me to say ‘We’ve got you in the group’

“I was like ‘what?’

“Then I went inside and saw the group I was like ‘yeah’. It’s good to be back.

“They can’t wait to see me. Me too. Obviously, they were good friends. We still are friends.

“It’s really amazing to be back.

“When I was in the car coming here I was just looking at the streets and remembering it all.

“When I see the stadium again, the inside, it’s really amazing to be back, really nice.”

Boli Bolingoli can’t play against Bayer because he wasn’t picked for the Europa League squad. Mikey Johnston is unlikely to play either – the winger is currently nursing another injury.

Celtic will need to be at their best and have a bit of luck if they want to get a result on Thursday night.

Jeremie can’t really use any inside information because the team has changed so much since the summer.

Ange has his work cut out for him with multiple call offs. It’s going to be an interesting game under the lights for the Hoops.

We need to rise to the occasion or risk going out of Europe early.
