WE reported yesterday the Celtic social media had been very quiet since the weekend result against Hibs. Usually, the club will barrage us with plugs and ads, especially this time of year, but perhaps they read the room and decided to cease communication unless it was essential.

I think we’ve just got a big glimpse as to why the Celtic social media account has taken this tact over the past few days. No sooner had they wished Tom Boyd and Roy Aitken a happy birthday, there were sent a barrage of messages about Neil Lennon’s status with the club.

We’re not going to post any of the messages, some of them are not even suitable to publish.

We understand the frustrations of the fans and our own social media account acknowledged Neil Lennon doesn’t look up for the task; however, the vitriol from some members of our support is so disrespectful.

Some fans need to take a step back, it’s ok to want a change of manager but the abuse towards a guy who has become a legend at the club is very poor. You can simultaneously want Lennon to move on and be respectful.

Celtic have a Europa League game on Thursday night and Neil Lennon will be in charge for the game unless something fundamental changes in the next 48 hours.

The team is due to train at Celtic Park on Wednesday morning before flying off to Prague.

If the board is convinced Neil Lennon is the way forward, they will have to explain their decision if the situation continues to unravel,
