Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist will depart the club this summer.
The future hasn’t looked bright for the Swiss stopper since Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo came in the door last week, with talk of a Parkhead exit rife.
Indeed, former Celtic manager Neil Lennon wants Siegrist at his new club, Rapid Bucuresti.
The Scottish champions recently permitted the 32-year-old to travel to Romania for talks in the hope of sealing a permanent deal.
It remains to be seen how things have progressed, but Rodgers has admitted that Siegrist will likely leave Celtic this summer.
“It’s fair to say that with Benji (Siegrist), he’ll be looking to move on”, he said (RecordSport).
“I can only speak for my year with him, he was exemplary.
“His professionalism, everything about him was first class. And when I spoke last season, we thought that probably for him, in this part of his career, he needed to go and play. So I believe that will be the case and he will move on.”
Things never seemed to work out for Siegrist in Glasgow.
He was one of the best ‘keepers in Scotland when he joined the Hoops from Dundee United on a free transfer two years ago but amid Joe Hart’s renaissance, the stopper made just two competitive appearances for the club.
A permanent exit this summer is best for all parties.
