We continue to be fascinated by the Furuhashi effect off the field when it comes to Celtic.

There was no guarantee of a major following from Japan even though Furuhashi is popular among his countrymen.

Unlike when Nakamura played for Celtic, the novelty of Japanese players heading to Europe is no longer there given there are much more now than ever before.

We’ve been watching our own metrics closely and interest from Japan has been quite something.

Celtic are looking to capitalise on commercial opportunities open to them with Furuhashi in the side and one way they’ve done so is to start a Japanese Twitter account.

Japan based journalist Dan Orlowitz has pointed out the growing number of followers on the new account and how Celtic could eclipse some of Europe’s richest clubs if the account continues to grow.

The striker has made a sensational start to his Celtic career — scoring four goals in two starts for the Hoops so far.

If he continues to find the net, the man from Japan could be an outstanding presence both on and off the field.
