GARY NEVILLE has told Sky Sports News he has long been an advocate of Celtic becoming part of a ‘British League’ along with their Glasgow rivals after discussing the recent managerial upheaval at Celtic Park.

Neville says he understands Brendan Rodgers wanting to move to Leicester because fo the league they are in but believes the size of Celtic in a league combined with England’s elite would see many managers covet the Celtic job.

Neville says the Glasgow two have huge potential if given the platform and seems to put Leicester and Southampton down as beneath Celtic if you took what league they played in out of the equation.

“I understand Rodgers’ move.” Said Neville.

“It was no real surprise to see him take the job with the lure of the Premier League, we saw that when Virgil van Dijk left the champions – a club the size of Celtic – to join Southampton.

“Brendan obviously felt he had taken the club as far as possible.

“I have always been a big advocate of a British league with Celtic and Rangers in.

“How they’d do is tough to say but these are huge clubs and it is something I have thought for a long time.”

It’s a debate which has raged on for years but it will simply never happen. The clubs who are getting a massive piece of the Sky Sports pie would be like a turkey voting for Christmas if they allowed Celtic to get some of that revenue.

Celtic’s infrastructure is there to become a well-oiled machine given the chance. They operate well in the SPFL and continue to make profits with the bleak amount of cash available to them in competitions.

The Champions League looks set to become a closed group for the ‘elite’ leaving Scottish clubs fighting for Europa scraps and the third competition UEFA are set to introduce. There’s no ends in sight as the clubs with more money put a stranglehold on the game.

  1. Well well, what can you say. Only if Celtic and sevco ended up in a british league Celtic would get relegated, so would sevco but the cheating would continue and sevco would end up in the vauxhall/bostik type league. Gary has been around and knows a move or two. Will never happen, as any Uk Type league would have Southampton, west ham, everton, westbrom, burnley and maybe even watford, swansea, linfield, glenavon, huddersfield or Cardiff.

    • They would get relegated? Celtic would have a bigger pull than everyteam outside the top 6 add the increased income to its own financial infrastructure they would be able to attract some of the best managers and players in the world. So in truth you know nothing about what you are talking about Ira

  2. Can’t imagine “rangers” wanting to move to a league where they’d be expected to observe the same rules as everybody else.
