Celtic once again took control in the Scottish Premiership this weekend after a comfortable 3-0 victory at home to Ross County.  24 hours later, Winter Break champions, “Rangers”, slipped up at struggling Hearts in similar fashion to last season, where the Ibrox club seemed to crumble after the winter break.

After a shock defeat to our Glasgow rivals at new year, many Celtic fans’ confidence had been shaken and if we were all to believe the hype created round last years’ runners up, we’d be thinking they already had one hand on the trophy.  However, like pretty much every year since their promotion to top flight, the Rangers have shown a total lack of bottle at the start of the new year.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Steven Gerrard stated “Celtic were waiting for us to blink and we blinked”.  Gerrard has been known for a certain lack of coolness in his press conferences since coming up to Scotland and these latest comments suggest there’s been no improvement on that front.

Clearly Gerrard understands that Celtic are better than his own side.  The Liverpool legend probably couldn’t believe his luck when Celtic failed to show up on the 29th of December.  For the first time in a long time, Rangers were in control.  However, at just the second time of asking since the new year encounter, the Gers have slipped up in the race allowing Celtic to move ahead once again.

Gerrard’s comments sound like something Derek McInnes would have said when Rangers were out the league.  Celtic remain the better team and Gerrard knows it.  We know Celtic are far from perfect but the most important thing is to focus on our own game and how we can be the best.  Gerrard’s comments convey that Celtic are likely brought up several times a day on the Rangers training ground.

There are still a lot of games to go between now and the end of the season and it is crucial that Celtic keep the momentum going and don’t give their rivals an inch.  However, the Scottish Premiership’s most recent matchday weekend should have put both Rangers and their cheerleading media right back in their place.

  1. They slipped up yesterday, yes , but too many tic fans getting carried away with this in my opinion. Long long way to go yet , let’s not count any chickens

  2. There are 6 player’s in our team that can hide for 90 min in any one game also, like 29/12 2019 we have a few bridges to cross and do not have players brought in scot Sinclair earned 40,000 a week law well is giving 2 new players 12,000 each and he peter is pocketing 16,000 a week in savings

  3. Players we have can also hide for 90 minutes most games as like 29/12/ 2019
We have not used up Sinclair’s wages as yet and have about18,000 left to pay another new signing
