Celtic still need to strengthen their squad before the deadline on September 2nd.
The club made their fifth signing of the window at the weekend when they brought free agent Jonathan Afolabi into the fold.
However, Jonathan along with Luca Connell are both players who are here to develop and not start straight away.
This means Celtic have signed three players for first team duty when they lost over 12 in the summer. Specifically, the defence has been the issue and it’s not surprise the three first team signings have been for this area. There’s still room to improve and Celtic have to be savvy now and try and pull a few rabbits out of the hat.
One move which was quashed a while back was Filip Benkovic returning on loan. However, the player said his goodbyes on social media intimating he would not be returning this summer.
Since then Filip has been getting up to speed with former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers st the King Power stadium. Many Celtic supporters noted the absence of Benkovic from Rodgers match day squad against Chelsea at the weekend and have been pondering if there could be an opening to bring the player back if Rodgers isn’t going to use him.
The player might just be unfit at this point but Celtic should be monitoring the situation.
Filip Benkovic, not in the team, bench or even the squad for Leicester on their trip to Stamford Bridge yesterday…
Possible opportunity for Celtic there ?

@chris_sutton73 any truth in the rumours Celtic have been very aggressive in a renewed approach for Filip Benkovic? @LCFC

Seeing a lot of Benkovic patter this morning, about a potential return, but would be very surprised if Rodgers did any form of business this season with Lawwell and the club.

Benkovick has been injured and still recovering, that’s why he is not near the first team squad.
Just a thought. Could it be PL’s involvement in transfers that’s phukin every potential deal up? Teams getting pissed off with his demands?
Benkovic does not want to return to Celtic. He was so looking forward to this season in the EPL. So forget it.
