GIORGOS GIAKOUAMKIS has made a donation to a Greek Charity to cover food costs for families who struggle in the striker’s home town of Heraklion.

Greek news site Creta24 gives some insight into the charity;

Every month 250 families of Heraklion receive food, meat, clothes and shoes, as well as Christmas – Easter we ensure a complete festive meal for their family. Find a job, provide Free sports activities for children, Provide new parents equipment and baby items, Household items and furniture for families, Complete set of school supplies for 500 children, Carpets, blankets, sheets and towels for families in need, Provide free legal coverage, free sessions with psychologists, and free help from an accountant for the families we help.

Giakoumakis’ donation didn’t go unnoticed, with the charity taking to Facebook to thank the Celtic striker.

Celtic is a club built on charity, so it’s great to see the players acting in a way that reflects this. It’s also great to see that Giakouamkis hasn’t fallen out of touch and is still aware of the troubles in his former community. The player will likely have friends and family in the city’s neighbourhoods.

Off the back of a brilliant season, Giakouamkis has joined up with his international teammates early to impress new boss Gus Poyet, showing his intent to keep improving.

Next year is a big year for the player. He’s keen to stay fit and bag even more goals, so he doesn’t have to share the top goal scorer striker with anyone.

It’s great to see that Giakouamkis is a top-class man, on and off the park.
