ANGE POSTECOGLOU has confirmed there’s a chance Gorgios Giakoumakis could make his debut for Celtic on Sunday but if he doesn’t make it – the striker will be involved on Thursday against Raith Rovers.

The Hoops have got a tough away game against Livingston on Sunday – a stadium where the club have not enjoyed much success in over the past few years.

It’s up to Celtic to change that under Ange Postecoglou and overcome the shoddy artificial pitch the home side play on.

James McCarthy has been deemed ready to go after getting more minutes under his belt in Spain on Thursday night.

“I get people want to see new players but he had a disrupted pre-season, a bit like James McCarthy.” Ange told RecordSport.

“I’ve been really keen to get James on the pitch and now it looks like he’s ready to go.

“It will be the same with Giorgos. If he’s not involved on Sunday he will definitely be involved on Thursday.“

Giakoumakis only had a pre-season with Venlo and has not played any competitive ties this season yet. Ange is clearly protecting the striker, if he played the Greek frontman when he’s not ready, there will be plenty waiting to write him off after 90 minutes.

The manager will not be keeping him out of the team for the sake of it and it’s all about making sure the players who take to the field are ready to go.

Celtic have been struggling with injuries over the past few weeks and will not be at full strength for a little while yet, but we’re already showing signs of progress.
