Greek International Giorgos Giakoumakīs is set to join Atlanta United as a Designated Player, with a deal in place for the Celtic striker to travel to Mexico with his agent Blash Hossein to finalise the move.
The transfer fee for the 28–year–old is reported to be around £4.3m, with GiakoumakÄ«s set to sign a three–year contract with an option to extend his stay in the United States. [Fabrizio Romano].
The journey for Giakoumakīs to join Atlanta has been a long one, with reports linking the player to the club since early January. However, it is only now that both sides have been able to come to an agreement with J-League side Urawa Reds giving the player options.
The deal is a huge one for Atlanta United, with Giakoumakis set to become the club‘s highest–paid player.
He had an overall positive 18 months at Celtic. Initially, the frontman was injured, but he really did help bring home the SPFL title in the second half of last season. It is understood that Giakoumakīs is eager to join Atlanta and will be looking to hit the ground running in his new home.
