GIORGOS GIAKOUMAKIS won’t be playing football for Atalanta in the MLS next season, with Urawa Red Diamonds now favourites to sign the Greek striker, but there is a further twist in the transfer tale.
❗No more Atlanta United for Giakoumakis. No deal with Celtic. Urawa are now the favourites to sign him even if he prefers European football than Japan. Transfer thriller 🟢@CelticFC #Celtic #CelticFC

Despite being constantly linked to the Japanese side, La Gazzetta Express reports that Anderlecht is taking an interest in the player. Despite no concrete offer being made for the player, they’ve joined the race for the want-away player.
As the window starts to run down, it’ll be interesting to see where Giakoumakis ends up. While the European deadline is at the end of the month, like in America, the Japanese market is open until March, giving Giakoumakis some breathing space to make his decision if he is to join Urawa Red Diamonds.
It’s been a long transfer story this, but the ending should be just around the corner. The player will likely miss the match at Tannadice on Sunday, missing the last few because of the background distractions.
