Giorgos Giakoumakis has started 2022 in the best way possible. Starting for Celtic, he has shown his worth and chipped in with several goals. After a tough start to life at the Parkhead club, the Greek striker has promised fans his form in front of goal will not dip as he sets himself a target for the rest of the season.

Scoring a hat-trick at the weekend, he has shrugged off the remaining doubters and ensured Celtic would extend their gap at the top of the table. Against Dundee, he scored two more goals than his tally for the first half of the season.

As quoted by SunSport, the striker stated he promised fans he would hit the back of the net a few more times by the end of the season.

“Everyone criticises a striker if he doesn’t score goals — so it’s something which makes me very happy whenever I score. It’s something that makes me really pleased.

But for me it’s not the only thing I have to do on the field.

“It’s part of my performance, but whenever I score and have a good performance then I feel my play is complete, and it makes me even more happy.

I know everyone is criticising a striker for his lack of goals. When you are a forward goals are your fuel.

Scoring makes me pleased with my game, and it’s something I hope I can do in every single match in order to help the team now.

I feel I can score a lot more goals this season. That’s one of my targets right now, to score a lot more. My main ability is to score with one touch.

But I try to improve every single bit of ability that I have. I always try to improve my touch and my dribbling.

I try to score from every possible position because I am a striker and I can’t predict what situations will come in the game.”

Giakoumakis is on a great run of form. His confidence is high, and rightly so.

Another hat-trick on Thursday would be brilliant!
