On Saturday afternoon, summer deadline signing Giorgos Giakoumakis opened his goalscoring account for the club on his first start against St Johnstone.

After reacting to a defensive mistake, the Greek striker pounced upon a low cross by full-back Tony Ralston before wheeling away to celebrate with the crowd as he put the Hoops 1-0 up in the first half.

Many fans were delighted to see the 26-year old finally in action and making a start under Ange Postecoglou after taking a bit of time to get up to speed due to a disruptive pre-season with no indication of where his future might be.

Now though, if early signs are anything to go off, he looks to have found that with the Hoops, and he expressed that joy of getting off the mark as well as stating when he expects he will be fully fit & raring to go.

As quoted by Football Scotland, he said: “I’m not a patient guy, so for me, it was a little bit difficult waiting to get to full fitness. I worked hard, and I’m getting fitter day by day.

“It was really beautiful to score. It was something I was looking forward to feeling, and I am really happy about that. I’m getting closer and closer to full fitness with every game – from now on, I can say that if I am needed, I am ready.

“I think with one more game or two more games, I will be fully there.”

It has been a little bit of a frustrating time for the former VVV-Venlo striker, by the looks of things, having to gain that fitness and also overcome a slight injury knock.

However, he is finally in a position to make that impact for Postecoglou’s side and playing an hour yesterday will do him a world of good as he looks to gain match sharpness too.

It is good to see early indications of what Giakoumakis can offer us upfront, and in my opinion, he will certainly come in handy with some goals at points throughout the campaign.
