Celtic could be without one of their top midfielders for an extended period of time with reports claiming James Forrest’s injury could leave him out for longer than expected.

The Celtic academy graduate went off injured against Riga in Latvia last week and according to SunSport, the player’s timeline for recovery isn’t clear at all.

The suggestion is James has a bruised ankle which, if true, would keep him out for at least six weeks – missing some pivotal games, including the Glasgow Derby.

In his absence, Jeremie Frimpong has come back into the side and is flying at the moment. The little defender seems to be enjoying his role running up and down the wing in a 3-5-2. Jeremie was one of the top performers in the Riga game and Hibernian game on Sunday.

It’s great to have options and players who can come in and keep the team ticking over. We hope to see James back as soon as possible. The Glasgow Derby is set for mid- October so it looks as if James will be missing for that game and a number of European games if we do qualify.
