Celtic needed to start the second half today the way they did in the first half against Aberdeen which saw the Champions a goal to the good within three minutes.

The Hoops dominated the first half but took the foot off the gas for the last five minutes and allowed the visitors some possession in the Celtic half that would have given them some hope heading down the tunnel at the end of the first half.

The second-half start was a bit more cagey compared to the explosive first half, Celtic were guilty of some sloppy passing in the final third.

Ten minutes in and a flurry of Celtic shots were kept out by the Don’s keeper. Reo Hatate had a good shout for a penalty after he was clearly fouled after letting a shot off. VAR can’t come quick enough in Scotland this season.

Just after the hour mark a now traditional Ange triple substitution kicked in with Turnbull, Giakomakis and Abada coming on to replace the three Japanese Bhoys.

Aberdeen offered nothing in front of goal but the Hoops needed that second goal to crush any hope the visitors are gaining.

Then a mouth-watering goal of the season contender left Jota’s boot with this wonder goal on eighty minutes. The Portuguese winger was an easy choice for man of the match.

Giakomakis missed a sitter with five minutes still on the clock but the big Greeks movement in the Aberdeen box was causing all kinds of problems but he will be disappointed not to be on the score sheet today.

Celtic with a convincing 2-0 win.
