ANGE POSTECOGLOU seems keen to help Stephen Welsh develop further this season after he was subject to a bid from French side Toulouse.

Stephen has been a backup defender for Ange thus far. The Celtic manager has always been comfortable introducing Stephen into the fold when an injury to CCV or Starfelt has occurred.

The Scottish under 21 international is likely to start against Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon with Carl only now beginning his pre-season work after recovering from an injury.

Some fans have questioned why Celtic would hold onto a player that’s not viewed as a first team starter. Ange has made it very clear from the beginning that this s an ensemble cast; and it’s not always about the starting XI.

It’s about having the depth and the talent to deal with adversity when it comes to call offs. Last season, at points, Celtic were desperately short in key areas and our performances and end result s suffered. We showed enough about us to come back and win the title despite an injury ravaged end to 2021.

The Celtic manager is keen to help talented players progress, especially if they show they are dedicated and can improve.

Welsh falls under that category for the Hoops boss:

“Welshy has shown a lot of growth,” Ange told CelticTV.. “I expect that from all the players. He has come back for pre-season and worked really hard through it.

“We are challenging him to take his game to another level. He has definitely gone up a level from last year and hopefully he knows that we will try to get even more out of him.”

Every player has their price, but Ange Postecoglou has made it clear, he views Stephen as part of his squad.
