Ibrox Legend Graeme Souness has told Sky Sports he believes winning a league is better and more prestigious than winning a European trophy.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the pundit argued that going a full season in a league and getting through the other end with the trophy is much more of an achievement than winning anything in Europe.

Souness believes the trials and tribulations of a league title winning far outweigh a good run in a knockout competition.

This will break Kevin Thomson’s heart who claimed earlier today if the Ibrox club manage to win the Europa League it would not only eclipse Celtic’s incredible league win but it would surpass the Lisbon Lion’s achievements in 1967 when they won every trophy going. [Record Sport]. An incredibly dense and blinkered take by Thomson but not at all surprising.

For the record, I think any Scottish team getting to a European final is a great achievement and shouldn’t be dismissed.

Celtic’s achievements and The Rangers run in Europe should be able to stand on their own. However, some supporters just can’t get any enjoyment out of their team winning unless they’re constantly holding it up to their rivals and their achievements.

  1. Wining the E.l. gets the victors into the C.l. draw. Not at the top table, but the same pot three or four that Scottish teams are placed. But a lot more than if they qualified normally.
So don’t know what Mr Sourness is talking about. Does he not reckon the foe can win it??

Celtic are going there. Getting the cash alternately.
