Daizen Maeda made the admission he’s having to to do extra training to keep a niggling injury at bay. So it was not ideal to see the Celtic star being called up for international duty this week.

However, there’s great news for Celtic fans after Japan took on Uruguay on Friday morning. Daizen played no part in the game and stayed in the bench for the duration of the 1-1 draw.

It means Daizen hasn’t be over extended and has had the chance to keep up his fitness work in training while not being risked in the game.

Japan will take on Colombia on Tuesday, and you would have to imagine the Celtic star will get some game time at that point. By that time it would have been well over a week since Daizen last played for Celtic and some minutes should do him good.

Daizen is the only Celtic representative in the Japanese squad despite Kyogo and Reo Hatate tearing it up for the Scottish Champions this season. Hatate is dealing with his own injury at present and Kyogo having some time off will do him the World of good before the final run in this season.
