Many Celtic supporters made their feelings clear on Saturday afternoon as a fresh protest took place inside Celtic Park during the Premiership clash with Hibernian.
As the teams walked out of the tunnel and the directors took their seats, the Green Brigade’s North Curve section unveiled a striking banner that read: “Your silence is deafening.”
The message was aimed squarely at the Celtic board, accused of avoiding genuine engagement with the support. Frustrations over boardroom decisions have been simmering for years, but tensions have intensified in recent weeks after a poor transfer window and continued silence from Parkhead’s hierarchy.
In line with the Celtic Fans Collective’s protest plan, large parts of the ground observed a 12-minute silence at the start of the game. The absence of noise was impossible to miss.
At the 12-minute mark, the silence broke. The corner of Celtic Park erupted, with fans throwing their full backing behind Brendan Rodgers’ side for the rest of the match. The message was clear: the protest was not aimed at the players, but at those in the boardroom.
This was the first of three planned demonstrations announced by fan groups, with longer silences set for upcoming fixtures against Braga in Europe and Motherwell in the league. The Collective has stressed that these are not boycotts, but time-limited protests designed to keep pressure on a board that has so far refused to engage.
The board’s refusal to speak directly to supporters is now being met with a silence of a very different kind, one that speaks volumes.
