GREG TAYLOR is set for a new contract and a pay rise from Celtic according to reports on Tuesday evening. The defender has been out with a shoulder injury recently but before that he was Ange’s first choice left-back.

The former Kilmarnock man had fought off initial competition from Boli Bolingoli and then Diego Laxalt last season to be Celtic’s left-back.

It’s a position that has caused Celtic no end of problems since letting go of Kieran Tierney.

Taylor gets a mixed reaction from fans with many in the support believing the club should be shooting much higher in his position.

Taylor is a hard worker but he’s struggled at times under Ange and last season under Neil Lennon – but so did many players.

If Greg is in line for a new deal, it means Ange sees enough in the defender to not only keep him around for now – but he sees Greg here further down the line.

The player has his current deal sitting until 2023, is he about to join Callum McGregor on the long term Celts list? According to RecordSport, yes.

  1. Total grafter that will give 100% of what he has for the team.. he’s marmite, along with Ralston.. but he’s not to be dismissed because he has the ability to be a quality players for us.. let’s wait until we see him at his best in a decent Celtic team under Ange .. Definitely worth keeping for me ..
