Greg Taylor’s long-term future at Celtic has come under the spotlight, with speculation surrounding his contract status intensifying. However, Brendan Rodgers has moved to calm any concerns, expressing confidence that an agreement could still be reached to keep the left-back at the club.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Rodgers praised Taylor’s contribution and professionalism, particularly in the face of uncertainty as the 26-year-old enters the final months of his current deal.

“Greg’s clear on where he stands. He’s been dedicated to Celtic for nearly six years. If he plays tomorrow, it will be his 200th game for the club, which is incredible,” Rodgers said. “He’s been a brilliant servant, and I hope he continues to be that during my time here and beyond.”

Taylor, who has been a key figure in the Celtic backline since his arrival from Kilmarnock in 2019, has reportedly drawn interest from several clubs as his contract runs down. Despite this, Rodgers remains optimistic that a resolution will be reached between the club and the player’s representatives.

“Ideally, yes,” Rodgers admitted when asked if a quick resolution to Taylor’s contract situation would benefit all parties. “I’m sure Greg would want that too. Between the club, Greg, and his representatives, I’m confident they’ll find a solution. In the meantime, I’m here to support him.”

The manager also took the opportunity to address the emotional reaction of some fans, who sang Kieran Tierney’s name after Celtic’s recent win over St Mirren with speculation the Arsenal defender could be returning home. While Rodgers understood the fans’ affection for Tierney, he underlined the importance of respecting Taylor, given his commitment to the club.

“Greg’s performance level, concentration, and commitment to the team and the club have always been there,” Rodgers said, reinforcing his admiration for the Scotland international.

Taylor’s consistent performances have sometimes gone under the radar at Celtic Park, but with contract talks ongoing, his future remains one to watch as the January transfer window heats up.

With Taylor poised to make his 200th appearance for the club, Rodgers’ message was clear—Taylor has earned his place in the side and deserves the full backing of the Celtic support as he continues to give his all for the cause.

  1. It’s not helped Taylors confidence he’s a midfielder at leftback and he is not all that comfortable out wide but he has to get his head right passing back all the time especially when teams are pressing is just passing the buck our left side is poor teams attack cause of that Rodgers see it but won’t tell his players so that’s why KT signs will improve it’s Taylor knows he is not what supporters want the want a fullback that isn’t constantly passing back and it’s his last big contract whey he is not signed I don’t think it’s the money I think it’s the years
