GIORGOS GIAKOUAMKIS scored a sublime header for his country during the International break just passed.

Celtic signed the striker for just £2.5 million last summer, a bargain looking back on how the player’s season panned out.

After a slow start to life at Celtic, Giorgos started 2022 in blistering form, netting sixteen goals since the turn of the year, quite an impressive record. His scoring form took him to the top of the goal-scoring charts, joint with Dundee star Regan Charles-Cook.

The country’s manager, Gus Poyet, praised Giakoumakis, saying; [athlitiko.gr]

“The timing shows the striker and Giakoumakis has it. He does his job well. George reminds me of me at 27. I started early, at 20 I was different, I was playing a lot out of the area, on the wing, making actions and creating play. In Holland later on I realized that I have a different role. Giakoumakis reminds me of my style.”

Heading into the new season, Ange has a problem. Who does he start, Giakoumakis or Kyogo? Both strikers are good enough to start, but only one can fit into Ange’s system.

The manager will likely use Giakouamkis as an impact player, with Kyogo leading the line from the off, but the Greek forward is certainly chapping at the door.

It’s a good problem for Postecoglou to have, especially after the injury woes the pair experienced last season.
