Celtic went to France on Thursday night with not many giving them a chance against the Ligue 1 side.

Rennes are flying high in France and are second in the table. Celtic were tipped to struggle against the home side but that never happened.

The bhoys looked in control and didn’t let the atmosphere or occasion phase them. Had it not been for Ajer having a lapse in defence to hand Rennes a penalty, they didn’t look like scoring.

A 1-1 result and it could’ve been a win. A Fantastic result all things considered.

Looking at the way Celtic have started the season and their away days in Europe has Neil Lennon finally solved Celtic’s travel sickness?

Away results in Europe this season:

  • FK Sarajevo 1-3 Celtic
  • Nomme Kalju 0-2 Celtic
  • CFR Cluj 1-1 Celtic
  • AIK 1-4 Celtic
  • Stade Rennes 1-1 Celtic

5 games played, 3 wins, 2 draws. 11 goals scored, 4 goals conceded.

We might be jumping the gun slightly because of the standard of team we’ve come up against in the early rounds but the AIK thumping was a big result. Cluj draw and then a Rennes draw all very credible.

With Lazio and Cluj away still to come the bhoys should take confidence from the games which have gone before.

They can be a match or better than any team in this group on their day – home or away.
