CELTIC have reportedly been interested in Wigan’s Nick Powell for a while now with the midfielder performing well and his contract running out at the end of this season.

Powell, 24, looked like a very plausible and even exciting replacement for Stuart Armstrong after the Scottish midfielder left Celtic in the summer.

However, since then, the emergence of Ryan Christie has quelled the need for Celtic to go into the market for an attacking midfielder but Rodgers will also be wary of standing still.

Nick has gone down with a hamstring injury which is set to see the player miss Wigan’s festive period and perhaps won’t be fit until the New Year – with that in mind has the midfield star played his last game for the club?

So far the former midfielder has played 18 games, scoring 4 goals and has 5 assists to his name.

Powell has rejected a contract offer from Wigan already and there’s no sign of a new deal on the table as of yet.

There is interest from Premier League sides as well as Celtic’s Euro rivals Leipzig in the Englishman.

If Celtic want him they could sign him on a pre-contract and wait until the summer.

However, a small fee in January could take the player away from The Latics for good.
