ANGE POSTECOGLOU has claimed he’s not worried about losing any of his top players in January in the summer.

It comes after the curtain came down on Celtic’s Champions League campaign. The points tally was disappointing in the end despite encouraging performances.

After the World Cup, the transfer window will fall shortly after. There’s likely to be movement from a lot of clubs and perhaps World Cup players who make an impact.

The Celtic manager is relaxed and sees losing players as part of the process, hinting he’s expecting it.

Postecoglou told Football Scotland “It is an opportunity. If our players do well and move on to so-called greener pastures, if that is what they want, then there is an
opportunity for me to improve the team.

“Because, if they are going to leave us, we are going to get some revenue in. I don’t fear losing our players. I see that as part of the process.

“If you look at clubs who do well at Champions League level that are our size, what do they do? They develop players, sell them on and replace them with better versions, hopefully.

“That is where our growth lies. It is part of the process. I don’t fear that. That has to happen for us to grow. We need to be bringing money in to be able to keep bringing better players to our football club.”

The Hoops boss has the correct attitude. Player turnover is a big part of Celtic’s business model.

Ange’s optimism can only be vindicated if the board reinvest the majority of transfer fees back into the team.

If we want to compete in the Champions League, we can’t skimp when it comes to players. Yes, we have to continue to find bargains, but Celtic also need to be in a position to push the boat out if need be.

It’s something Brendan Rodgers hit a wall with at the club.

Celtic are four points clear at the top of the table and have just banked a lot of cash from their Champions League exploits. It’s now time to get back down to business domestically before the World Cup break.
