CELTIC look to be closing in on the signing of Hatem Abd Elhamed, with The Scottish Champions reportedly agreeing a deal with Hapoel Beer Sheva.

The 28-year-old is a bit of an unknown quantity but today the picture is a little clearer for any Celtic fans interested to know what he’s all about.

SportsRabbi.com reporter Moshe Halickman has given us great insight into what type of player Celtic will be getting.

The player has had to recover from the loss of his brother at a young age to rise to prominence within the Israeli game.

Halickman uses his article to chronicle Elhamed’s career to date and gives Celtic fans every reason to be excited by the incoming transfer.

“Elhamed is known as one of the best Israeli defenders today”

“First off, Elhamed could play in multiple positions. He has experience as a right back and as a defensive midfielder, while over the past 3 years he played at a very high level as a centre back.

“Elhamed is tall (1.86 Meters) which helps him with his heading ability, perhaps one of the best in Israel, as he won 61 out of 84 aerial battles this past season. Elhamed was one of the fastest defenders in the Israeli league, is a decent passer, and an excellent tackler, as he won 75 tackles out of the 108 he attempted.”

It all sounds very positive coming from someone who is very familiar with the player.

Celtic need a utility man who can fit a number of spots in the side if needed. Bringing the defender in would see cover for both centre back and right back. Providing we get a first team right back in before the deadline!

If the fee of around €2m is to be believed then Celtic’s summer spending would hit around €12 so far.
