Five days into 2020 and Celtic have yet to make any official moves, either in or out of Celtic Park.

There’s a lot of things likely going on behind the scenes as the club prepare for the second half of the season. Offloading players who won’t feature and bringing the wage budget down is essential to bring in more quality.

One man Celtic were obsessed with landing in the summer was David Turnbull, the bhoys chased the Motherwell midfielder who originally turned the club down but a late change of heart while walking around Carrow Road saw David head to Glasgow to sign for Celtic.

A nearly month long saga ending up with a leaked image of the Motherwell player wearing a Celtic shirt next to Neil Lennon in the boardroom. Fast forward a week later and the deal had broken down because of something which was flagged up on David’s medical.

A knee injury which was a ticking time bomb and had to be addressed. Even after this was found, Celtic didn’t drop the deal like a bad habit. They went back to Motherwell with a new proposal. The Scottish champions wanted Turnbull on loan for the whole season with a view to buying him outright next summer. However, Motherwell were not game for this because there was no guarantee Celtic would take up the option.

With the deal at an impasse, David went back to Motherwell and got his surgery.

The player has been recovering ever since and is yet to play a game this season. It’s more than likely he will get some game time this season but are Celtic looking to pull the trigger in January for their former summer target or have they dropped their interest altogether?
