Celtic are closing in on a deal for Japanese defender Hayato Inamura, with reports from both Japan and the UK claiming negotiations are moving in the right direction.
The 23-year-old currently plays for Albirex Niigata and has been on the radar of the Parkhead scouting team as they look to add depth and versatility to their backline.
According to Japanese outlet Sponichi Annex, “multiple sources” are now stating that discussions have progressed well and that an official contract is expected to be signed after a local medical check. Sky Sports News backed up those reports on Monday, revealing that talks have taken place and the player is keen to make the move to Glasgow.
Inamura is a six-foot-tall, left-sided centre-back who can also slot in at left-back. He’s been a regular for Albirex Niigata, and despite his side’s relegation battle this season, he’s stood out.
Celtic have seen success in the Japanese market before, and Inamura could be the next in a long line of imports from the J-League to try and make their mark in the Hoops. With Maik Nawrocki in talks to return to Poland and the club needing fresh options at the back, this could be a timely addition.

Assuming things go to plan with the medical and final terms, Inamura looks set to become part of Celtic’s summer transfer overhaul.
