Frank McAvennie has claimed Celtic should look at sending Giakoumakis out on loan this window because ‘he doesn’t look right.

The striker hasn’t had a good start to his Celtic career. The Greek forward had to come in and play catch up, taking part in an entire pre-season training regime himself where he would end up suffering an injury.

Since then, the player has been in and out of the squad with injury and the penalty miss against Livingston didn’t do him any favours.

Giakoumakis has it all to prove, that’s why he should be staying at Celtic and trying to find some of his best form.

Sending the Celtic striker out on loan shouldn’t even be on the table, and to be honest, it won’t be but we know how Frank likes to talk:

The former Hoops player toldFootball Insider: “I’ll never say no to new strikers coming in.

“I think we have some great strikers. Kyogo has obviously proved it and the new guy Maeda is really exciting.

“I look at Ajeti and he’s not done it. I’ve said enough about him at this point.

Giakoumakis, he’s not done anything really, has he? He barely plays and I do wonder why did we sign him?

“I don’t know if it’s a fitness thing or if he’s not up to the task but he was on fire last season.

“He doesn’t look right here. I just wonder if a loan spell might be best for him.

“I think if another striker comes in then he will definitely leave. The squad needs to be smaller now, not bigger.”

Celtic have brought in Maeda to share some of the responsibilities but Celtic’s way of playing lends itself to injuries. There’s going to be times in the second half of the season where we will need to call on the big striker. He gives us something different from both Maeda and Kyogo.

It’s all about getting his confidence back. If, by the end of the season, he’s yet to show promise at Celtic, then you look at things.
