Former Celtic goalkeeper Doris De Vries has raved about Celtic star man Odsonne Edouard.

The retired Dutch stopper was speaking to the Sunday Post about the young Frenchman and couldn’t have spoken any higher about his ability and how he is a ‘dream to play with’ as a number nine.

“When the likes of Callum (McGregor) and James (Forrest) have possession, it must be a dream for them to have someone of the calibre of Odsonne Edouard as their No. 9. He came to Celtic as a young man, and his game has developed to a very high level.

The way he stays calm and focused in games, and when he has chances to score, really impressed me. You just know that if you give him the ball in the box, then they’re at least an 80% chance he will score.

He also has wonderful game intelligence. He wants to be coached and wants to learn. It does not surprise me that clubs from England and abroad are interested in him. He is special.”

De Vries was famously signed by former manager Brendan Rodgers to become the club’s number one. He was thought to be a keeper who was much better on the ball, than then goalkeeper Craig Gordon.

However, it didn’t quite work out for him, only playing 15 times for the club, having his ups and downs. Such as featuring in the 5-1 win against Rangers but then being on the opposite side of a 7-0 mauling by Barcelona.

Overall he seemed like a decent older character around the dressing room and played a part in the journey to the treble-treble.

From early on, it is clear to see that many seen Edouard as a great talent who could make it to the very top. These comments just further back this up.

After such an impressive season, last term many fans will be sure Eddy can fulfil the high expectations once again and lead us to yet another league title
