SCOTT BROWN has told Celtic fans not to worry too much by the lack of new faces at Lennoxtown when the bhoys reported for training on Monday.

The club are working on deals to freshen up the squad before the start of the season with David Turnbull expected to sign for Celtic after all but whether he does or not, Brown is quite cool about what’s going on.

“Whether they bring in Davie or they don’t, they’ll have other people lined up and good players will come in.

“We’ve haven’t lost too many of the starting eleven. You have got to look at it that way. We will freshen it up.

“There have been a few players who haven’t been in squads who have been in other dressing rooms. It is about focusing on a smaller bunch of lads rather than 33 or 34 lads, when it is always hard to keep everyone happy.

“Sometimes a new manager comes in with totally fresh ideas and wants to change everything in two-and-a-half weeks.

“We’re away to Austria, play three games, then come back straight into qualifiers.

“There’s not too much time to change too much, but he knows what he needs to do, who he wants to bring in and I’m sure he’ll do that in time.

“He’ll make sure he’ll get the right players and not to dive in at the deep end.”

Maryan Shved will be a new face in the dressing room having finally made the move to Celtic Park. The midfielder was signed in January but loaned back out to Ukraine to finish the season. Shved is a very exciting prospect.

Brown is being a little dishonest when he talks about not losing a lot of the first XI. The notable absence of Filip Benkovic and Dedryck Boyata have left a gaping hole in Celtic’s defensive armour. Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Simunovic finished the season strong but Boyata and Benkovic were the first team pairing until the last six or seven games.

Benkovic was benched for the remainder of his Celtic time because Neil Lennon opted to play Jozo who would be here beyond the summer and Boyata wasn’t playing because he sustained an injury against The Rangers which prematurely pulled the curtain down on his Celtic career.

The defence is a real priority for Celtic.
