On-loan Celtic youngster, Scott Robertson has received high praise from the current boss at Gillingham, Steve Evans will the Scotsman insisting that midfielder will play for the Hoops first-team next season.

As reported by Kent Online, Robertson has enjoyed life so fair in English League One showing the qualities he has and it’s clear to see Evans is delighted to have a player like him on board.

“I cannot give any bigger testament to an 18-year-old kid in Scott Robertson than to say he will play in the Celtic first team next season.

“He might not play every week but he will play for them.

“I know he is very highly thought of by all the coaching staff there. They had a representative at the game and he would have gone away thinking, ‘we have a good player there’, but they know it anyway.

“I thought he played with composure at times, with grit and determination, which is perhaps why they sent him here when three points matter, rather than playing academy games”

The 18-year old midfielder first arrived on the scene last season when he made his debut in the Europa League against Cluj.

Since then we have seen him feature in pre-season of this year, playing a big role with a fair bit of game time in the side this summer.

It was important for Robertson’s development though to go away and have some game time to improve him self as player.

In a way there are many comparisons to him and Callum McGregor, not only in play style but also as a young player at Celtic, with the current midfielder making a similar loan move to Notts County at a younger age.

So far this season, he has impressed at Gillingham but has also had his injury problems in recent weeks. He seems to be building up to full fitness again and showing that quality he has.

I am sure he will be back next season, playing some sort of role in the first team, as Evans mentions.
