CELTIC loan star Lewis Morgan was in a massive match of his own on Sunday when Sunderland took on Portsmouth in the Checkatrade Trophy Cup Final at Wembley in front of a record-breaking crowd for the competition.

There were 85,021 fans packed into Wembley stadium as Lewis got a start in the English national stadium.

The game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes with Sunderland’s goal coming from former Celtic youth prodigy Aiden McGeady. It was the former Celtic star who would score again in extra time to equalise against Portsmouth and make it 2-2 on the day.

After 120 minutes the teams could not be separated so a penalty shootout was needed. Lewis was substituted by this point and didn’t have a say in the outcome.

Sunderland lost 5-4 on penalties to Portsmouth, narrowly missing out on the trophy.

It will be heartbreak for young Lewis and his team-mates right no but playing in that game will certainly have given him a boost and big-time game experience for his return to Celtic this summer.
