Sean Clare has come out over a week after Celtic beat his side 2-1 in the Scottish Cup final to bemoan the result and call Celtic average.

The Hearts player thought it was going to be their day when they managed to poke home a goal early in the second half but that goal seemed to wake the Celtic players up and they soon got back onto level terms before Edouard would go through one on one with the goalkeeper.

The Hearts defending and their line for the second goal was absolutely atrocious never mind anybody being called average. It was a simple defensive hearer from Lustig and the instincts of Edouard who caught the Hearts back line napping and made no mistake about the finish.

Clare says on the day, the Hearts players gave their all and made Celtic look average.

“Every single one of us gave our all and put in a good performance.” the Jambos Star told FootballScotland.“I thought when we went 1-0 up it was going to be our day.

“But a couple of things went against us and they managed to get the win.

“They are a good side but I felt for large spells of the game we made them look average.

Clare has obviously not been introduced to motion capturing hardware which would enable him to watch the game after the fact to draw conclusions from it.

When asked about the penalty decision, Sean admits he wasn’t sure one way or another if it was a penalty and from where he was it looked like it wasn’t.

“The penalty just came at a really bad time for us.

“I didn’t really see it properly but players go down when the keeper comes out.

“I don’t know if there was contact. It didn’t look like it although I wasn’t really sure.”

Celtic went into the history books with the victory and secured an unprecedented treble treble. Not bad for an average looking side on the day!

  1. He says they gave their all, but they still couldn’t win, even when Celtic were not at their best.
Clare’s mindset is weak, like many others at Hearts.
