Boli Mbombo signed for Celtic this week and became Neil Lennon’s third summer signing. The left back has pace to burn and will be a welcome addition to the squad going forward.

Unlike the other two signings Celtic have already made, Boli has had game time against Celtic’s Glasgow rivals. Playing for Rapid Vienna last season, Boli and his teammates helped knock Steven Gerrard’s men out of the competition. Rapid Vienna qualifying at the expense of The Rangers at the time.

However, there was a last minute altercation between Boli and Alfredo Morelos during one of their ties. The Ibrox striker who can rarely stay out of trouble tried to get Mbombo sent off when the player clashed with the Colombian. There was nothing really in it and Boli’s motion could be described as a weak double Karate chop, however, Alfredo Morelos dropped to the floor like he has been shot.

As the defender sat in Thursday’s press conference as a Celtic player, it was always going to come up.

Asked if he remembered the incident, Boli told RecordSport.

“That I remember, yes. Some things like this can always happen in football, but it was nothing bad at all.

“I didn’t want to do it because he was a Rangers player or anything like that, it’s just that things like this can happen on the pitch. It was heat of the moment.”
