BRENDAN RODGERS has rubbished any reports that Tom Rogic has walked away from a new Celtic deal after the players returned from a disappointing trip to Russia.

The Irishman refuted claims made by an Australian media outlet that Tom Rogic had knocked back a new deal with the club and was looking for a way out of Celtic Park.

“I am not aware of that to be honest. We have just arrived back from Russia.

“I know Tom and his representatives have been speaking with the club for a little bit of time but that [the reports] are the first I have heard about that.”

We reported yesterday that talks had been going on for some time but had stalled as of late. This is par for the course with negotiations, but the fact Celtic are keen to get the player signed up 15-months before his deal expires, it shows how much they value Tom and the manager was unequivocal in his praise.

“Tom is a very important player for Celtic.

“He has been a joy to work with in my time here. He has been here for a considerable period of time but certainly in the 20 months I have been here he has been absolutely brilliant.

“Of course, at Celtic we want to keep our best players. It is not always easy because at times they will either want to move on or offers come in from clubs.
