FORMER Celtic defender, Radio Pundit and Brechin City boss Mark Wilson has hit back and says his praise of Jeremy Frimpong has been vindicated after he picked the player over Ibrox Captain James Tavernier.

Given Jeremie is very new to the game, many Ibrox supporters and neutral pundits rubbished the call to pick Jeremie over James in his Glasgow Derby XI but as we sit mid-December, Wilson looks to have made the right call.

Once filling the right-back slot at Celtic, Mark Wilson knows what it takes to play and win for Celtic and sees the talent Jeremie possesses – as do we all.

Not only has the player excelled, leaving more tenured players in his wake – he already has a medal to his name – as for Tav…the less said about that the better.

Speaking on Clyde Superscoreboard, as cited by SunSport, the former Celt felt pretty smug after another dazzling display against Hibernian from Jeremie.

“Last week I was asked to pick a combined Celtic and Rangers team for the cup final and I put Frimpong at right-back.

“I got a lot of stick for it because he’s only played a handful of games

“But I was basing it on ability and how good this kid is and what I’ve seen in the past.

“This is a guy who has made ten appearances, he’s now scored two goals, he’s got numerous assists.

“I’ve yet to see a winger go by him and that includes a £7million Ryan Kent.

“He’s phenomenal and it’s rare to find a player whose rose so quickly to success as he has.”
