Over the past 24 hours, it’s came to light that Celtic have a similar deal with Leigh Griffiths as they had with Jozo Simunovic.

At the time of Leigh’s contract extension it claimed he was signed up until 2022 BUT as we witnessed with Jozo last season, the final year of that deal was optional for the club.

At the time Simunovic told The Herald: It was settled that Celtic were going to extend the contract with me and just a few days before they needed to let me know that they were going to extend the deal, I got the phone call and a letter saying that they are very sorry but due to the situation with Covid they were stopping it.”

SunSport report Celtic have until the end of April to trigger the option and if they don’t, Leigh could leave for nothing this summer.

Leigh signed a four-year deal in 2018.

Another potential exit being on the cards seems incredible at this point. We really are in a full scale rebuild from top to bottom.

Leigh is a natural goal scorer but he’s been unfit and disruptive this season. Any manager coming in looking at that would likely see no future for the frontman.

On the other hand, we need reinforcements for even new guys coming on. Could Leigh facilitate that to a degree?

This all hinges on getting a manager in who will make quick decisions on the future of some of the players. Celtic must appoint a new man as soon as possible.
