In one of the more bizarre transfer rumours you’ll hear today there have been reports that emerging Celtic youngster, Mikey Johnstone has become a surprise target for Panathinaikos.

Mikey started to get game time towards the end of last season under Neil Lennon and even made the Scottish Cup Final starting XI.

It was in that treble treble winning game where the interest was apparently sparked.

The SunSport report says:

“Director of football Nikos Dabizas was at Hampden to see Johnston and Hearts midfielder Arnaud Djoum in action.

“The Scotland under-21 star is highly rated by new Celtic boss Neil Lennon”

This has also been reported by several other outlets this afternoon.

Johnstone was in and out of the sie with Brendan Rodgers and was thrown to the wolves by Brendan Rodgers at Ibrox back in December – played as a lone striker the youngster had no chance to impress.

There is no doubt the 20-year-old has talent, Neil Lennon is likely to use him going forward so any interest probably wouldn’t be welcomed.

  1. Ive followed this young lad and its my considered opinion that Celtic must now offer this talented Celtic Mad youngster before his head is turned by offers from across the water.

We need brilliant talent that is home grown and Johnston meets all the stated requirements, plus Neil himself wants him to be more involved in the game and at the highest level. Please Celtic get moving today and NOW.
