Odin Holm’s Celtic career appears to be stuck in limbo, with injuries and stiff competition limiting the young Norwegian’s opportunities. Now in his second season at Celtic Park, the 21-year-old has managed just 24 minutes across three substitute appearances this campaign, and with an abundance of midfield options in Brendan Rodgers’ squad, Holm faces a tough road to regular first-team football.

Rodgers confirmed this week that Holm is out of the picture because of injury, speaking to CelticTV “We are in a really good place. Everyone is fit and healthy. We’ve only got one in Odin who’s been out for a little while with his calves. But other than that, I’m really happy that we’ve managed to get through into this period now in a really healthy way. So, all fine fitness wise.”

Even if he regains full fitness, Holm faces a fierce battle to break into the midfield, with established players like Callum McGregor, Paolo Bernardo, Hatate, Engels and others add depth to the squad.

With so many players ahead of him in the pecking order, a loan move could offer Holm the best chance of regular football and development, as his chances of consistent game time with the Hoops look slim under the current setup.

Rodgers was speaking ahead of Celtic’s big semi-final clash against Aberdeen on Saturday evening. It’s a first-vs-second showdown in the league that promises to be a cracker.
