Dinko Horkaš Celtic U-Turn

Las Palmas president Miguel Ángel Ramírez appears to have changed his position over Celtic’s reported interest in goalkeeper Dinko Horkaš.

Last week, comments from Ramírez were widely understood as confirmation that Celtic had submitted an offer for the Croatian goalkeeper.

Speaking about Horkaš wanting to leave Las Palmas, Ramírez said: “Dinko Horkas is a UD Las Palmas player who has asked to leave the club.

“The club won’t let him go because the only offer we have [from Celtic] isn’t attractive to the club.”

He later discussed figures involved in the situation.

“We’re talking about five million. They’re offering us four million to be paid over four years. We’re asking for five million and 50 per cent of any future transfer fee.”

Those comments led to reports that Celtic had offered €4 million for Horkaš, with Las Palmas looking for €5 million as well as a sizeable future sell-on clause.

However, there has now been an apparent change in the story.

Spanish journalist Rafa León Ortega reported on Monday that Ramírez has clarified Celtic have not actually submitted an offer for Horkaš.

According to the latest account, Las Palmas have received a €4 million proposal for the goalkeeper, but that offer is from another club rather than Celtic.

The Spanish side are said to want €5 million paid in one instalment rather than a deal spread over several years.

That creates clear confusion around Celtic’s position.

Ramírez’s previous comments had been taken as confirmation that the Hoops were responsible for the €4 million offer. The latest clarification now suggests that is not the case.

It is possible the original comments were misunderstood or incorrectly linked specifically to Celtic, rather than Ramírez making a complete change in his position.

Either way, the latest information now points towards Celtic having not made a formal offer for Horkaš at this stage.
