Celtic could be in line for a financial boost from the Champions League if they can get past LASK.
The Hoops’ guaranteed prize money in the league phase is partly determined by the other clubs who qualify for the competition.
UEFA’s new financial distribution model includes a Value Pillar, which ranks all 36 teams based on a combination of their five-year European coefficient, TV market ranking and 10-year coefficient.
That ranking then determines how much each club receives from the competition.
And a number of results in this week’s play-offs could therefore have a direct financial impact on Celtic.
One of the biggest potential boosts could come if Fenerbahce eliminate Lyon.
Should Celtic also qualify for the Champions League, that result would move the Hoops ahead of the Turkish side in the relevant rankings and could be worth an additional € 1.28 million to Martin O’Neill’s side.
Despite Fenerbahce having a higher five-year coefficient than Celtic, the Hoops’ stronger TV market ranking puts them ahead in the combined five-year coefficient and TV market table.
There are two other results which could benefit Celtic financially.
NEC eliminating Bodo/Glimt would move Celtic one place higher in the five-year coefficient and TV market rankings, potentially adding around €940,000 to their league-phase earnings.
Meanwhile, Viking knocking out Dinamo Zagreb would move Celtic one place higher in the 10-year coefficient rankings, adding a further €350,000.

In total, those three results could potentially increase Celtic’s Champions League income by around € 2.54 million if the Hoops themselves qualify for the league phase.
But first, Celtic must get past LASK. They’re going to be no easy opponent.
