The former Celtic star could be set to feature at the 2026 World Cup as he vows not to close the door on the possibility.
Edouard enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at Celtic, initially arriving on a season-long loan from PSG before signing a permanent deal in 2018 for a then club record fee.
He made 179 appearances for the Hoops, scoring 87 goals and registering 37 assists.
He was Scottish Premiership top-scorer in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons, winning three domestic trebles in a row.
The striker has featured for France at every level up to the U21s, but because he hasn’t been capped at senior level, he is eligible to switch nations.
Both of his parents are from Haiti. Now, he has revealed that he’s been in contact about the prospect of representing them at next year’s World Cup.
It’s the second time the nation has qualified for the tournament (after 1974). And in 2026, they’re in a group with Scotland, Morocco and Brazil.
Via The National, Edouard spoke of the idea:
“I came up through the ranks of the French national team, so obviously I am not going to hide that I have always wanted to play for them, and it would be the next logical step in my career.
“But I am certainly not closing the door on playing for Haiti. They have been in contact with me.”
The 27-year-old left Celtic in 2021 to join Premier League side Crystal Palace, where he struggled for minutes.
A loan move to Leicester City was then followed by a permanent switch to Ligue 1 side Lens in September, where he’s scored five goals in 11 starts.
It would be great to see him face Scotland at next year’s World Cup in North America. Not sure the Tartan Army would be signing ‘I Wanna Be Adored’, however.
