SCOTT BROWN just made his 500th appearance for the club in Celtic’s 3-0 win over Motherwell on Wednesday night and put in an excellent performance to boot.

However, while some of our younger fans will put Scott Brown and Celtic as somewhat of a given, it’s always worth taking a look back at the fork in the road and how the Celtic Captain had his name chanted by the Ibrox faithful just days before he became a Bhoy.

When you’re looking for a half-baked an opinion with no credibility then there’s only one place to go in Scottish fitba’ – Derek Johnstone has that particular market cornered.

The former Ibrox player has spouted some absolute belters over the years about saviours, messiahs and very naughty boys! However, perhaps the Superscoreboard man’s finest hour came with the transfer of Scott Brown.

With Broony at Hibs and getting ready to move on, Old Rangers came in for the midfielder at the same time as Celtic. It’s crazy to think, but Brown did have the option of heading to Govan to play his football.

Enter Derek Johnstone, who told the Ibrox faithful, the deal was done, Scott Brown was a Gers player in waiting.

Even when he was questioned about his inside information the big man stuck to his story.

This lead to Gers fans singing Scott Brown’s name at Easter Road while he was still a Hibs player. The chant boasted they were ‘Going to take Scott Brown’. Oh, how wrong they were!

Have a listen to this absolute gold from Johnstone.

Since then, Brown has won countless trophies, accolades, had a Celtic testimonial and captained Celtic do unprecedented success. Well done DJ.

We hope he congratulated Brown on his 500th appearance.
