Celtic’s Champions League opponents, Young Boys, were in action on Saturday ahead of their trip to Celtic Park on Wednesday, and it’s fair to say it wasn’t the perfect preparation for Joel Magnin’s side.
With Celtic emerging victorious 2-1 against Kilmarnock at Celtic Park in the Scottish Cup fourth round, Derek McInnes’ side did cause the Hoops problems for short periods of the game.
However, Celtic were certainly unfortunate not to have won the game more convincingly, with a number of missed chances in front of goal.

Young Boys had a chance to lay down a marker against 12th placed Winterthur at home on Saturday, but they slipped up yet again, drawing 0-0.
This came despite Celtic receiving a warning from Young Boys’ boss Giorgio Contini ahead of Wednesday’s must-win game.
With Saturday’s game for Young Boys their first in the league since December 15th against Servette, the Swiss champions will be well-rested for the game at Celtic Park. However, having already sacked Patrick Rahmen on October 8th, it has been a disappointing season for them, with no wins in the Champions League.
This season, they have been on the receiving end of some heavy defeats in Europe, losing 5-0 to Barcelona, 6-1 away to Atalanta, and 5-1 away to Stuttgart.
Currently, they sit 9th in the Swiss Super League, not exactly what you would expect from the defending champions. So, to say Celtic are favourites for Wednesday’s game would be an understatement, but Celtic will not be taking the game for granted.
Daizen Maeda has already sent a blunt warning to his teammates ahead of the game about complacency.

The Hoops will look to secure a convincing win and a place in the Champions League knockout playoffs, with a victory taking Celtic to 12 points after 7 games.
This is in line with the 10 points predicted before the competition started this season, which would be enough to secure a spot in the top 24 and the playoffs.
Therefore, it’s straightforward for Celtic, win and seal a place in the next round of the Champions League for the first time since 2013, or fail to win and leave their fate in the hands of other teams.
